Cherry Plum … Spring is almost here

Prunus cerasifera ‘Thundercloud,’ or commonly known as cherry plum or purple-leaf plum, displays masses of pale pink five-petal blooms in late February to early March.  Normally it blossoms before ruby-red foliage emerges, but leaves came out early due to a warm winter.   The foliage eventually turns to dark purple color during summer and the tree produces cherry-size plums. It is a beautiful deciduous tree for landscaping.  This arrangement is a basic upright ikebana style called Nageire.  It mainly consists of three branches (Shin, Soe and Hikae) in different heights and directions, complimented with three or five flowers in center.
