Adios to the Last Patch of Grass
When our lawn mower broke earlier this year, we decided it was a time to ditch the last patch of grass. After hunting for plants at nurseries in San Mateo, Palo Alto and Half Moon Bay in September, we finally started this landscaping project.
October 2017 – Before | Two workers dug the sod out in two hours. They were amazing. |
Lyngso delivered soil and mulch. | 2.5 cubic yards of small fir bark (mulch) and 2 cubic yards of 1/4″ fir bark (amendment). |
Rented a small rototiller to break the existing clay soil. |
Brought in amendment. |
Mixed in amendment with clay soil. | More rototilling to blend. |
Laid out what to plant where. | Planting was backbreaking. |
Watered new plants. | Covered with mulch. |
Completed! Can’t wait to see the plants taking off in spring. Plants: Blood Orange, Fig, Flowering Quince, Red Twig Dogwood, Philadelphus, a variety of ornamental grasses. |
