Artscapes 2018
Sogetsu San Francisco Bay Area Branch hosted Artscapes 2018, which is a biennial floral exhibit at San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park. I helped a setup day for my teacher (Yoshiko Sensei), who is heavily involved in the event as Deputy Branch Director.
This is an entry floor arrangement by Yoshiko Hogetsu Williams.
The followings are my favorite arrangements:
Jennie Kozuki Cho Li
This is by far my most favorite among all submissions. Her delicate work is an art & craft project with serious planning. I love the way round-shaped branches are connected to each other while orange Gloriosa and balloon cotton-bush are the focus points.
Sutthisri Bisui Watson
The split bamboo provides a nice structure to the orange dahlia, lilies and variegated foliage.
Glendy Suiyu Tseng
Lotus is definitely an eye-catcher, but the pinkish orange combination of pincushion and Leucadendron is complimenting the rusty metal structure and grey ceramic container.
Darren Lam
The curly willow might have been bleached or painted in white, which is a striking contrast with the orange hue tropical flowers and fern.
Katsuko Biko Thielke did a fun and fascinating presentation. She demonstrated how to run flax leaves through a pasta machine and to stretch out and dry them. I tried this before, but it is not easy as it looks.
Another flax leave arrangement from Katsuko Sensei’s demonstration.
Katsuko Sensei also did a flax leaf weaving demonstration.
