Bouquets to Art 2017

I visit Bouquets to Art at de Young Museum every year, but this year was a bit disaappointing.  I did not see many exhibits that I like.  However, these are my best five picks.

#1

Designed by Howard J. Arendtson, H. Julien Designs (Berkeley)
Complimentary art:  Gottfriend Helnwein, Epiphany II (1998)

Simple yet stylish.  Anthuriam is not my favorite flower, but I like the combination with green flax.

#2

Designed by Leila Simms, Leila’s Floral Design (San Francisco)
Complimentary Art:  Ruth Asawa, Untitled (1963)

The red dogwood adds beautiful lines and delicate texture.

#3

Designed by Yu-Mei Chen, co-exhibitor Chin-Huat Chang (San Jose)
Complimentary Art:  Frank Stella, V Series (1968)

The horsetails are carefully bended to create unique shapes.

#4

Designed by Katharina Stuart, Katharina Stuart Floral Art and Design (El Cerrito)
Complimentary Art:  various bowls, Mesoamerica

Interesting contrast between sculptural mateirals like Papaverpods and Echeveria while Gypsophita (Baby’s Breath) adds soft and fuzzy touch.

#5 Designed by Joan McLellan Taylor (San Francisco)

Complimentary Art:  Abraham Anghik Ruben, Passage of Spirits (20th – 21st century)

This arrangement is tiny, but cotton pole cactus, green-hue carnation and the snake-shape plant (not sure the name) mimic the original art very well.
