Peninsula Rose Society – 2024 Annual Rose Show

The last weekend was dedicated to the annual rose show for the Peninsula Rose Society. Although heavy rain posed challenges during the setup day, Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day.

The following are my four rose arrangement submissions:

Section: Modern Arrangements
Category: Showing movement
Awards:  Earl Parsons Perpetual Trophy (the most creative arrangement), Hunter Perpetual Trophy (the best modern arrangement), King of Show Arrangement (2nd best of the show)
Materials: Grandiflora Rose (Cherry Parfait), Date Palm branch, Leucadendron (Jubilee Crown)

I stumbled upon a date palm branch on the street after a winter storm, which my Sogetsu teacher recommended placing upside down for a stronger line.

Section: East Asian Manner Arrangements
Class:  Using a tall container
Awards:  The Best East Asian Manner Arrangement, The Princess of Show Arrangement (3rd best of the show)
Materials:  Hybrid Tea Rose (Pink Promise), flowering plum branches
It is a simple Nageire style (throw-in), but the large hybrid tea roses likely caught the judges’ attention. Small plums are still sour but resemble cherries.

Section: Modern Arrangements
Category:  Designer’s Choice
Materials: Shrub rose (Lady Emma Hamilton), Dusty Miller buds, Leucadendron (Jubilee Crown), Red Bunny Tails, Jasmin leaves

Section: East Asian Manner Arrangements
Class:  Using a Low Container Showing Water
Materials: Floribunda rose (Ketchup & Mustard), Japanese maple (Sangokaku)
