Railroad Journeys in Japan | Episode 8: Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto, Kyushu

Hitoyoshi is located in the southern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers.  While the town experienced the worst storm of the century in July 2020, Kuma River has restored its beauty and rafting tours are back in business.  We are very thankful to Rafting Stones owner, Kentaro Oishi.

I learned a lot about this historical storm from the local government branch of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, which graciously provided precious archival photos for this video.

My thighs are completely sunburned from river rafting.

Chestnut trees are everywhere in Kumamoto.
