Water Lilies and Lotus Flowers in Kagawa

Water lilies and lotus flowers are abundant in Kagawa Prefecture.

This is a small pond (no more than two feet in diameter) in front of Morikuni Shuzo (the only sake brewery on Shodoshima Island). Small water lilies are carefully maintained.

This lotus pond at Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu City is huge.  Pale pink and white lotus flowers are blooming.  We visited this enormous yet immaculate garden around 9:00am in mid-July, but it was already 90 degrees.  No wonder the park opens at 5:30am.

The entrance of Chichu Art Museum on Naoshima Island has a lush water lily pond, which is inspired the water lily paintings by Claude Monet that are displayed inside.

Water lilies can also grow wild here in Naoshima.  Water lilies spread on sunny pond surface, which I saw when I was biking around the island.
